Back to School Tips for Mom and Dad

Back to School Tips for Mom and Dad

As the end of summer nears, parents across Maryland are preparing their kids for the 2018 school year! Whether you’re sending your toddler off to their first day of pre-k or preparing a high school freshmen for the road ahead; we’ve got some helpful tips to help parents and their children on their first days back in school.

Ease Into the Routine

It’s a massive shock for children and their parents when making the transitions from sleeping in and playing at camp all day, to waking up early in the morning to catch the bus. A few weeks before school begins, gradually wake your kids up close to the usual time they’d be waking up for school.

Never Skip Breakfast

A substantial healthy breakfast provides the perfect start to your child’s day. In a rush to catch the bus? No problem! Schools in Anne Arundel County near our new Wrightmorore community, offer great breakfast options during the school year. Children can choose from oatmeal bars, zucchini bread, fruit, and a host of other smart breakfast options!

Last Minute “Smart” Trips

No need to cram a quick study session in with the kids before school starts. Spend the last days of your summer exploring cultural attractions near your Sturbridge home. Get your kids in a scholarly mood with a visit to the National Electronics Museumin Linthicum, MD. Twenty-six minutes away from our Pony Club Estates community in Annapolis, this innovative museum explores breakthroughs in electronic history. A trip to this fun museum is sure to get your kids in a creative mood, just in time for school!

After School Program

If not already enrolled in fall sports, encourage your children to participate in afterschool programs based on their interest. Located in Servera Park near Sturbridge Homes (sold out) Cager and Whitecommunities, the Smart Fit Kids Academy provides both before and after school care for children from kindergarten through 8th grade in Anne Arundel County. Instructors cultivate interest in STEM, giving every child an opportunity to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Family Time

The beginning of the school year can be a busy time for parents and their kids. Mark out time on you and your kids’ calendar for family time. This time should be used to help kids with homework assignments or talking about their day in school.
