Best Annapolis Museums to Visit this Winter

Downtown Annapolis is full of museums dedicated to the exploring historic and present day art, Maryland life and the ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay. Here are some of our favorite Annapolis Museums to visit this winter.

U.S. Naval Academy Museum

118 Maryland Ave

Located on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy, the Museum offers two floors of exhibits about the history of seapower, the development of the U.S. Navy, and the role of the U.S. Naval Academy in producing officers capable of leading America’s sailors and marines. Exhibits include historical artifacts, as well as audio and visual technology to bring these stories to lift.

 

Banneker-Douglass Museum

84 Franklin St

This is the State of Maryland’s official museum of African American heritage, serving to document, interpret, and promote African American history and culture, particularly in Maryland.  Explore the current exhibition Deep Roots, Rising Waters: A Celebration of African Americans in Maryland, providing an overview of African American history in Maryland from 1633 through present day.

 

Annapolis Maritime Museum

723 2nd St

Situated on the Severn River, this museum explores Annapolis’ rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay, particularly the all-important oyster and its harvesters. You can learn how to harvest oysters, climb aboard a locally built workboat and view artifacts including an 850-gallon oyster tank.

 

Maryland Federation of Art

Maryland Federation of Art supports local and national artists by giving them professional avenues for exhibition at the State Circle gallery, as well as other exhibitions around the state. There are three exhibitions currently at the art gallery, including the Winter Member Show until January 21.
