Where And How You Can Donate This Holiday Season

Where And How You Can Donate This Holiday Season

The holidays are a time filled with warmth and kindness, shared with the ones we love. This year, let’s spread some of that holiday love beyond just our own families. This is the time to lend a hand to your neighbor and brighten someone’s holiday who may be struggling.

There are many ways to volunteer your time or resources near our Sturbridge Home communities. Here’s how to get your family involved this Thanksgiving!

Donate Thanksgiving Meals

2020 has been especially tough on many families in our cities and neighborhoods. We can all do our part to make sure that those who have fallen on hard times are able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. You can donate to the Maryland Food Bank by giving a holiday meal to a family in need. St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore also has opportunities for Holiday Giving.

Donating is a great way to give something meaningful. A little effort can make all the difference to another family!

Virtual Volunteering

It’s difficult to find ways to volunteer in the traditional sense this year — so all the more reason you can be of service to your community right now! Become a virtual volunteer! Don’t let social distancing stop you from reaching out and connecting with people in need.

United Way of Central Maryland has a number of creative ways for you to get involved and give back while also keeping a safe distance.

Everyday needs range from reading and video chats for the visually-impaired, to providing long-term help through career advice and mentorship. Reach out to see how they can put your unique skills to use.

Clothing and Toy Drives

It’s not just meals people need. With those bitterly cold winter nights rolling in, many people are also in dire need of warm coats and clothing.

Sponsor backpacks full of gloves, scarves, socks and jackets through Linda’s Legacy Annual Holiday Homeless Drive.

Gearing up for more holidays to come, it’s also time to gather those gifts and toys. Start thinking about shopping and donating ahead of time (before the Christmas week frenzy!).

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to get a jump start on gift drives and toy donations. Light up someone’s day by donating a holiday stocking, childrens’ gift or gift cards through The Lighthouse Holiday Gift Drive in Annapolis.

Giving is what the holidays are all about, so why not start a new family tradition of volunteering? It's the best way to create a spirit of generosity and a renewed sense of community.
